Range Hood Installation Involves More Than Most People Realise
A range hood that isn't properly vented, wired, or mounted is worse than no hood at all. It gives you a false sense of air quality while grease builds up in the duct.
Whether you're installing a sleek wall-mount chimney hood or a powerful island unit above a gas range, the installation involves electrical wiring, duct routing, structural mounting, and in many cases cutting through cabinetry or ceiling material. Each step has consequences if done incorrectly.
Common problems we see from rushed or unqualified installs:
- Hood not centred over the cooking surface, reducing capture efficiency
- Duct run with excessive bends, choking airflow and creating grease trap points
- Flexible foil duct used instead of rigid metal, collapsing over time and restricting venting
- Electrical not properly grounded, creating a shock hazard
- Hood not secured to studs, vibrating at high fan speeds or pulling away from the wall
What Our Installation Includes
- Removal and disposal of your existing hood (on request)
- Structural mounting secured to wall studs or ceiling joists
- Duct run using rigid metal duct for maximum airflow
- Electrical connection to code, properly grounded
- Charcoal filters fitted for ductless and recirculating installs
- Fan speeds and lighting tested before sign-off
How We Handle Every Range Hood Installation
From under-cabinet hoods in older Toronto kitchens to statement island hoods in Vaughan new builds, we handle every configuration. We know how to route duct through tight ceiling cavities and how to work around cabinetry without damage.
Site Assessment
We assess your duct path, cabinetry, wall or ceiling structure, and electrical supply before work begins.
Old Hood Removal
Existing hood safely disconnected from electrical and duct. Removed cleanly without damage to surrounding cabinetry or walls.
Structural Mounting
Hood anchored securely to wall studs or ceiling joists. Correct mounting height above cooking surface set for optimal capture performance.
Duct Installation
Rigid metal duct run to exterior or building vent. Minimised bends for maximum airflow. All joints sealed with approved foil tape.
Electrical Connection
Hood wired to code and properly grounded. Hardwired models connected by our licensed electricians.
Full Test & Sign-Off
All fan speeds and lighting tested. Duct airflow verified. Ductless charcoal filters confirmed seated correctly.

Range Hood Installation FAQs
What is the difference between a ducted and ductless range hood?
A ducted hood vents cooking fumes, grease, and steam directly outside through a duct in the wall or ceiling. A ductless or recirculating hood passes air through charcoal filters and returns it to the kitchen. Ducted hoods are significantly more effective. We install both and can advise on which is suitable for your kitchen and building type.
How long does range hood installation take?
Most standard under-cabinet and wall-mount hood installations take between one and three hours. Island hoods that require new duct runs through the ceiling take longer. We'll confirm timing when you book.
Can you install a range hood in a condo?
Yes. Many Toronto condos don't permit new exterior duct penetrations, so we install recirculating hoods with charcoal filters. Where existing building vents are available, we can connect to them. We advise on the best approach for your specific building before booking.
Do you install island range hoods?
Yes. Island hoods require ceiling mounting, a duct run through the ceiling cavity, and hardwired electrical. Our technicians handle all three. Island installations take longer than wall-mount hoods due to the duct routing involved.
Will you remove my old range hood?
Yes. We safely disconnect your existing hood from the electrical and duct and remove it. Just let us know when booking.
What mounting height should a range hood be installed at?
Most manufacturers recommend 24 to 30 inches above an electric cooktop and 27 to 36 inches above a gas cooktop, depending on the hood's CFM rating. We set the correct height for your specific hood and cooktop combination as part of the installation.
